Kwanzaa Match Up
Kwanzaa is a reflective holiday celebrating African American culture. Conceived during the civil rights movement of the 1960s, Kwanzaa lasts for seven days and is based on a seven-day Swahili harvest celebration. During Kwanzaa, play the Kwanzaa match up game, which is a fun game for kids. Pick ten pictures that represent Kwanzaa (kinara candle holder, ear of corn, Kwanzaa flag, etc.). Print or two of each picture. Cut out and paste each picture on a playing card-sized piece of poster board. Scramble the cards, then lay them face down in a five by five square. Let the children take turns flipping over the cards and trying to match them. Once they get a match, discuss the meaning of the item on the matching cards. The game is won when all of the cards have been matched.
To celebrate Kwanzaa one should have many candles ready as well as a big feast. You can also have engraved candles as well as some confetti all around the tables, to make them look pretty. You should get some banners and hang them all over the party area to make the event look extra nice.
